Everything you think you know about reality? Forget it. What you know - what you think you know - is only a very small fraction of the truth. Are you ready to leave the world you know behind?
Humans. The superior species on Earth - and the only intelligent species in existence. Right? Wrong. The truth is, there are beings out there that the average person has no clue even exist. Ghosts, demons, vampires, wereanimals, and shapeshifters are only the tip of the iceburg. Hybrid creatures - things that may look human except for wings or other anomalies- and even people with extraordinary gifts are out there. Most of them are in hiding, or are trying their best to blend in with humanity. However, everyone needs a sanctuary, and the denizens of the supernatural world are no different.
Sanctuary. Just an average-sized town on the Pacific shore of California… Or so it would seem. Only, if you were to look on a map, there would be nothing labeled there. To anyone not in the know, Sanctuary does not exist. Just why, you ask?
The town is one big sanctuary for the supernatural world. The less-than-human denizens of the world flock here in hopes of finding someplace where they belong. Humans live here too, but they are the minority, and many of them know - and hold quiet - the secret of the supernatural world. The borders of Sanctuary are closely guarded, and the police force, along with regular duties, is in charge of making sure no one speaks out to the media.
The perfect solution, right? Wrong again.
Meet the HLFT (Humans Looking For the Truth). They don’t exist either, only they’re not on the side of the supernatural world. An organization with the support of the government, under the guise of medical research. Their real purpose is far from that stellar though. Their goal is research on supernatural creatures - to find out all they can; find a ‘cure’ that would turn these creatures into normal humans; and a faction that seeks to either wipe out the supernatural races or expose them to the world. And just like the supernatural denizens they too flock to Sanctuary.
It’s a delicate balance; no real counter-organization exists to protect the races from HLFT. At least, not right now. A small group is slowly coming together, but they’re currently nothing more than a nuisance to the HLFT. And one other problem? Not all of everyone in Sanctuary was brought here willingly. Some are a menace to humans, and the town acts as a prison for them…
